Alkeme Atelier is inspired by the ancient science of Alchemy and the process of transforming and combining the four elements (earth, water, fire and air). This idea of breaking down and rebuilding materials led them to produce their bags with sustainable, plant-based textiles. Tons of plastic is discarded every year, polluting lands, rivers, oceans, coasts and beaches. 

Alkeme Atelier takes this waste and transform it into a brand new material, a fabric used as the linings of their handbags. They hope taking these conscious steps will aid in the mission to protect the planet and cultivate an ethical and sustainable fashion. Alkeme Atelier are constantly innovating for sustainable materials. 

Material: Made in an innovative Vegan Leather, exclusive to ALKEME ATELIER. The material is lightweight, scratch resistant and high in strength. They produce this bag in a factory that is ISO 9001 certified.

The base of the fabric is made up of 70% recycled materials, such as discarded clothing, and small, very fine fibres. 40% is recycled post consumer polyester, 18% is pre consumer recycled polyester that is thrown away before use, 12% is recycled wood fibre and the top is coated with a high-grade oil. Utilising mainly recycled textiles for their production helps to minimise waste and reduce the amount of toxic gases released from garments that were disposed of and otherwise end up in a landfill.

Developed by advanced research, Alkeme Atelier’s signature fibre is responsibly engineered to outperform standard animal leather. While it has a similar appearance to leather, it’s cleanable, longer lasting and almost one-third the weight of its animal counterpart. Vegan fibre is scratch-resistant, high in strength and water-repellent, making it an immensely durable material.

Lining: Made from a polyester created out of recycled plastic bottles. By buying this bag you are taking a small step to help keep our oceans and planet clean. Each lining uses about ten plastic bottles, preventing them from becoming ocean pollution or planet waste. Alkeme Atelier produces this material in a factory that has Global Recycled Standard certification.

Dust Bag: Made from 100% natural and biodegradable bamboo fibre. The antibacterial and odour-free properties of this textile make it the perfect protective layer for your handbag. However, you can also choose to use the dust bag as a shopping bag or reusable tote as each bag has sturdy straps attached to wear over your shoulder. We produce this material in a factory that has Global Recycled Standard certification.
